The Olympics

Now that the Olympics are over, what are we going to make awkward chit-chat about with strangers in waiting rooms?

London

Did you watch the games? I’m enjoying the most elongated break from work I’ve ever had (ever!) and I have to admit I was sucked in. My sports (to watch) have always been swimming, diving and gymnastics. I’m mesmerised by the grace of the human body.

This year, I found myself entranced by how emotional the Olympics can be. I don’t remember noticing it any other year, but just imagine the overwhelming excitement, nerves, disappointment and elation the athletes must go through. As a spectator, I swear, sometimes you almost feel it too!

As a competitor, the eagerness to succeed burns through your blood streams. As fans, we are tuned in spiritually to our desired champion of the sport. We are connected by emotions linked with fear, happiness, failure and success. We are connected. This is the love of life. Now the next conversation topic will be - where did you spend your summer break?

I'm sad that the Olympics are over. I love watching all the athletes, especially the divers, swimmers, gymnasts, and horse riders! It must be amazing to win a medal after training your whole life for this one moment. :D

I didn't watch much of the Olympics this time, to be honest. Everyone was talking about it so much I felt I didn't need to!

I find nail polish an excellenct topic of conversation with people in changing rooms. Whether they agree is of course a totally different matter!

To be honest i didn't wantch the olympics this year. Having no tv makes it difficult to follow up, but one sport i always make sure i don't miss is synchronised swimming... the Spanish team are always coming up with the weirdest choreos to beat up the Russian.

Btw, how funny these pictures are... it makes you think how silly humans can actually be sometimes!

Since it was happening practically in my back yard I was riveted! I can’t say I have ever noticed how emotional it can be either – I found myself tearing up once or twice too! I was glued to the women’s boxing and couldn’t believe that even though we live in the 21st century, this was the first year that they were allowed to compete! I am now gearing up for the Paralympics in a few weeks (which I have tickets to....eeek!!)

Dainty Doll- nice body match!

Yeah maybe it was the proximity that made it so exciting this time round, Josie. I hadn't thought of that.

Oomph- oh yes! All through the ladies boxing, I couldn't stop commenting on it. My family were like JUST WATCH IT!
