Anti-Prostitution Campaign

I love how the history of media can often tell you so much more about an era than any history book.  I know the books I studied in school had no mention of this campaign from World War II:

WW2 poster1

WW2 poster

WW2 poster2

WW2 poster3

WW2 poster4

My favourite has to be the “Don’t be HER pin up boy” one.  Don’t you love how the lady’s dress is emblazoned with a warning of her particular disease?  If only it were that easy.

hmmm. I'm sure feminists would have a field day with this one. Even I find myself not loving the way women seem to be the "Eve" in the context of these ads.

Although a good message overall, how misogynistic are these flyers? Women are essentially the physical embodiment of std's....geez!!! They're so horrible it made me laugh.

Thanks for sharing, I love history to a tee, so this is uber interesting to me. You always find the best stuff, t!

Thanks Ashley, yeah you just have to look at the funny side of it or else you could be very offended!

Haha I love those old ads, they are too funny! They remind me of the Friend's episode where Joey is in the VD poster. But my favorite picture is the one with the swing! Hope you had a great weekend :)

I remember Jess... I think the caption read 'What Mario isn't telling you...'
